We're celebrating the success of our new energy plan petition and closing it to new signatures so that we can move forward with petition delivery and our meeting with Chancellors. 🎉🎉🎉

🌟Over the last month and a half we've gained signatures from over 3500 individuals as well as endorsements from the UC Green New Deal Coalition, the 16,000 strong union of University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE), the United Autoworkers (UAW) Local 5810, representing 11,000 Postdocs and Academic Researchers at the UC and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and the UAW Local 2865, representing 19,000 graduate student instructors, tutors, readers and teaching assistants at the UC. This is a massive accomplishment!

🌟Currently, our institution burns enough fracked gas on its 10 campuses to generate about 1 million tons per year of CO2. ‼️We know that this needs to change, and together, we are pushing to get a plan in place to make that change happen. ‼️We're continuing to meet with leadership and will be formally delivering the petition to the Regents, President Drake, and the ten Chancellors this week. And we won't stop there, we'll keep the pressure on.

Green New Deal at UCSD1 week ago

Although many mature universities pride themselves on embracing racial diversity, their founding often has a dark history. Congress passed, in 1862, the Morrill Act, which gave states land to establish universities for the purpose of expanding access to higher education. UC Berkeley and some other University of California Schools are some of these institutions! Unfortunately, these universities' current property formerly belonged to tribal nations and was brutally taken away from them!

To better understand what the UC System is now doing to mitigate this legacy, please check out the ‘UC Land Grab’ symposium that will occur on October 23rd from 9 am to 12:30 pm PST. There will be awesome speakers from places such as the North Fork Mono Tribe and UC Davis!
